K-pop group aespa has been chosen as one of the “Next Generation Leaders” by the U.S. news magazine TIME for the first time as a K-pop girl group, said SM Entertainment on the 13th.
The “Next Generation Leaders” is a list of trendsetters selected and announced by TIME every year.
TIME commended aespa, saying, “It is an experiment, but it may also be the inevitable next step for the music industry to connect the virtual and the real world.”
aespa debuted with a unique metaverse-based concept, and released many hit songs, including their debut single “Black Mamba” and follow-up songs “Next Level” and “Savage.”
aespa said, “We were also worried at first because the metaverse-based worldview was the new concept for SM Entertainment. But fortunately, out fans love this concept and even make internet memes.”
