Doosan Enerbility has won an order worth 1.6 trillion won for a construction of the nuclear power plant in El Dabaa, Egypt.

Doosan Enerbility said Thursday it has signed a contract with Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (KHNP) in Cairo, Egypt, to build the second turbine island of the El Dabaa plant. This is the first time that it has won an order for construction of overseas nuclear power plants, excluding the supply of main equipment such as nuclear reactors and steam generators.

The El Dabaa nuclear power plant project ordered by the Egyptian Nuclear Power Plants Authority and won by Russian nuclear power company ASE JSC is a project to build four 1,200-megawatt nuclear power plants in El Dabaa, 300km away from Cairo. KHNP signed a contract with ASE JSC to build the second turbine island, and plans to start the construction of the unit 1 in August 2023.

The first turbine island is a nuclear steam supply system with reactors and steam generators, and the second one is a facility to generate electricity with turbines and generators.

Doosan Enerbility plans to build a total of 82 pieces of equipment, including turbine generators, water treatment and cooling facilities, and install turbines and generators by 2029. It will also establish cooperative relationships with Egyptian local companies in the construction and equipment sectors to meet the localization rate required by the Egyptian government,
